Clutchy Hopkins; the man, the funk, the phenomenon.

This beautiful bum is said to have produced some of the grimiest funk of all time, while backpacking in the Mohave Desert. His life story involves living with Monks, living on the streets of New York with Moon Dog, and ending up on the Mexico/Cali border.

Whether this story is true or not, his music is incredible. If you like MF Doom's beats then this guy is your savior. Everything from rediculous intruments to casio keyboards, makes this guy an originator of the grimy beats.

Stones Throw 101 (2004, Stones Throw Records)

Here's the first post! I'm sitting down, researching and reading about Dimethyl Ether (DME, www.aboutdme.org, is my life at the moment), and listening to my latest zip.ca DVD, Stones Throw 101. If you haven't heard of Stones Throw, and you like funky hip-hop then you need to check this disc/DVD out for a SOLID intro.

This label headed by Peanut Butter Wolf and Egon is probably the center of the California hip-hop community for the last decade and a bit. These guys along with Madlib definitely keep the funky side of beats and rhymes living long and hard.
